~ Watching Over ~

Photobucket

This is another picture from my zoo trip. Seems like a distant memory now with all the things going on here, but I thought it fit the entry well. Momma watching over baby...... as we are all so lovingly watching over each other.
I remember starting my AOL journal having not a clue. It was so confusing so hard. I couldn't get a picture in my entry to save my life. Animation. OMG forget it!! I had no idea what all the links were, how to do the sidebar. How to add things I wanted there. But... I found other journals, asked questions, got answers, and low and behold I got use to things there. I was changing designs and colors like I change my underwear. It was comfy, it was home. Minus the trolls of course. This is really no different folks, with the exception of us all trying to learn at the same time. The base of users to ask questions from is much smaller. I've found things on other journals and asked about them. I got answers and did things. I tried to post directions in my blog, but of course it is very new to me I don't have all the answers. I'm trying though. We need to breath, be patient, and not give up. Everyone is trying to help really they are. One issue some might be having is the email the comments are coming from. If you are getting comment alerts sent to you, you see how they are sent. Most not from the users email. Please, make it easier on yourself and others so they can help. Add an email address to your profile. It's really no different then having your AOL email exposed on each comment you made in our journals. Don't give up, WE can do this!

Had a fairly good day today. Besides trying to get caught up here, I went to Time Warner (my cable provider) There are some issues with Lin TV, which carries CBS. They want to charge Time Warner for their signal. A signal that is free if you don't have cable. Anyway, as of midnight on the 2nd, CBS is off the air if you have cable. Talk about mass hysteria. Our football game on Sunday is on CBS. Folks are livid, some do understand the stand of Time Warner, others don't. It really doesn't matter though, they want their channel back. So Time Warner decided to give out free rabbit ears and a converter so you can flip off cable and get the signal. Good idea.... well until I decided to go there today. OMG! I turned down the street and was a good mile away from the cable office and I was in line. WTF!?! It took me about 30 minutes only to be told when I got there I had to keep going and get in line coming the other way. I drove and drove... it was at least 2 miles before there was a break and I could turn off the street. The line kept going. I said screw it! I have no idea if that was the actual line that kept going or folks just caught up in the jam. Didn't matter I wasn't going to spend my Saturday that way.
I decided to go shopping and continue looking for a dress for my nieces wedding. Let me tell you that has been no picnic either. I've been unable to find anything I like or that is in my age 'bracket'. More like prom dresses with lots of taffeta. NOT!! I found a gorgeous top, red, white, and black. Will look perfect with my straight long black skirt. Success! I bought a couple more shirts with long sleeves and 2 pair of slacks. Almost jeans but one black, one brown. Spent more money then I wanted but I was tired of getting up in mornings and not finding anything to wear to work. It's definitely been fall here. To warm for sweaters and too cold for summer tops. Oh well, I deserved some new clothes! Well, I do hope everyone is doing good and starting to get comfy in their new homes.

~ Quiet ~

Photobucket

Well damn it's quiet around here. Feels like more then AOL is off line. LOL I know it's late now, but hasn't been late ALL night. Everyone is getting use to their new surroundings, I know. Trying to figure out what is happening and all the how to's. I'm still have some difficulty with my graphics. I hate that blogger wants to shrink them into some blur of a thing. Indigo is trying to help. She has beautiful LARGE pictures on her blog. They don't get cut off and there surely aren't being minimized to blobs. I tried a few times and then deleted because I just couldn't get it to work. I'll keep trying and keep bugging her for help. That is until she tells me to take a hike. LOL

I wanted to post this graphic. Guido asked if I'd do something... not fancy and doesn't have a ton of bells and whistles, but it gets the point across. Doesn't it?

Ok I've been sitting here way to long tonight. I'm off to bed. More playing tomorrow I'm sure. I WILL get the graphic thing figured out!!!

OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHH and that Indigo is so smart. In order for you to get graphics large you need to change your template to one that is stretch. You can select the preview and see what happens. I was afraid I was going to lose all my hard work but nope it was all there. Depending on what you pick you may have to fix colors. I went with Minima Stretch and it kept the background white so I didn't have to change anything. Go to customize, layout, settings. Thanks Indigo you rock!!! Might I suggest anyone who puts graphics and or pictures in their journal and wants them a bit larger do this. You'll love it!!! Upload graphic to photobucket, use second code and paste into html tab. When you go back to compose you can move it by clicking and dragging :)

Ok, now I'm off to bed. Happy Friday....... oh wait... it's Saturday ::yawn::

~ Breathing Easier ~

Ok so change isn't always good and we tend to fight it, but in all honesty I think when we figure it all out we will enjoy it here. Some crazy things but I think some features are huge!! Let's all be patient and share our knowledge as we learn it. JLand was not the place really but the people and we haven't lost each other so....................

Ok so some things I learned and wanted to share.
Comment Alerts:
You can go to customize, settings, comments. Scroll to the bottom and fill in the email address you want your comments to go to. Presto an alert!
I suggest removing the word verification on your settings as well. I know I have a helluva time reading them and then I have to redo and redo... GRRRRRRRRR So I'm blind ... or is it I can't read? LOL
Comment alerts get sent from a generic do not reply address unless the person commenting leaves an email address in the comment or has their email in their profile. Can I be so bold as to ask that folks add an email address that they check in their profile. It makes it a ton easier when replying. I've gotten comments that said 'Linda' .....well I have tons of Linda's that read and I have no idea which it is. If your email is in your profile I can just hit reply because the comment alert comes from you. This will make it a ton easier when requesting tags as well. Trust me I will still be offering them!

Ok.. Marie over at the Photo Challenge found a nifty little subscribe item. It was pretty easy and will share her directions. You see it is on my sidebar now. If it works as it says it will once you put your email in and then respond to the verification email sent to that address you SHOULD get an alert when I post.
Subscribe:
go to
www.feedblitz.com
Create an account
go to/account/subscribers/scroll downto create a new Newsletter
(I think I ended up going to newsletter/subscribers) You will see itshould bring you here
http://www.feedblitz.com/f/f.fbz?NewsNew=0
Fill in your email address, then click next, I left most of the questions to default or will do later. LOL I just clicked next until gave me the code.
Once you have the html code, copy it. Go to your blog and customize. Add gadget on the sidebar. When the window opens scroll to html/java and paste the code there. Save. You can add a title if you want. I didn't see it on my journal right away it took a few seconds. But I did get an email since saying someone subscribed. If they would be so kind as to let me know you got the alert I'd appreciate it :)

K.... done with instructions for now... just trying to help... hope it does. I'm far from an expert but sharing what I find out.

~ I need a Drink ~

Preferably something stronger then apple cider. This moving has me tired out. Alerts from AOL, my comment alerts there, alerts here, emails with questions, trying to get to all the blogs here and still trying to straighten up my place. :::sigh::: No wonder we all hate moving. Doesn't matter if it's this or in real life. No worries I'm not complaining just stating..............

I read an entry on AOL regarding saving your journal. Thanks Jeannette, I hope you don't mind that I share it here.

'I heard the news today that our journals are disappearing. AOL in it's wisdom decided to get rid of us. I'm sure many of you want to save your journal to read later and maybe pass it on to future generations. I tried to save mine by following AOL's garbled instructions with no success. Finally I opened up Internet Explorer and Googled my journals address. When it came up I clicked the 'file' box in the top left hand window, left clicked to get the drop down box then left clicked 'save as'. A new box appears on screen, just click 'save' and it saves your journal in your documents where you can access it any time.'

Now it sounded so easy to me. Way to easy. I gave it a shot since I was thinking just starting fresh here. No carry-over. Call me a bitch but I don't think I want to give AOL the satisfaction of moving me. Anyway, I did mine and it appeared to work. I thought, what happens when it's gone? Well I didn't want to delete it just yet so I did a test journal I had, then deleted that one. Low and behold it appears to work. It opens no problem and all is there even the freakin add that says AOL is kicking us in the a$$. Comments did not come over ... but oh well. Now if you try it and it's there then disappears later I don't want anyone coming back to me. I'm just sharing information that APPEARS to work. :)

So much to learn so much to do. I'm slowly getting this up and running. Still lots of dust, but as I look around we all have that dust. A few things I've learned. Go to customize and look at the options. There you will find so much. Font size, color, so on so forth.

Animation? Oh yes I have figured it out. Like AOL Blogger doesn't pull animation in from your hard drive you still need to use an outside source. I use photobucket and it is free. Use the first code photobucket gives you. Then when in entry mode select add picture, and paste the code in the URL slot. Presto! Animation. You all know how important this is to me since so many of my tags are animated. Please make note of this so the animation stays on your graphic. :::puppy dog eyes::: paaleaase? I will most likely start doing smaller tags because I can't seem to figure out how to leave them real size and they surely look like shit resized by blogger... ummmmmmmmm......... and ya know I hate that too. GRRRRRRRRRRRR But not something we can control on this site but I'll try.

Adding to your sidebar. Oh what fun. Go to customize, add gadget. You have a list of choices. Some pre-made things some you can add your own. I know we are all learning and trying to get things in order. I don't think it will be too bad... or maybe I will regret saying that. LOL Either way, share what you know. Remember if you are using an html code use that option under gadgets and paste the code in the box. You can move items around on your side bar too :)

Getting your comment alerts via email. Go to customize, settings, comments. Fill in the email address you want them to go to. One thing I haven't figured out yet is how to get your email to send the alert to me. Currently most come from a no reply address and I don't always have everyone's email. This could be an issue when requesting tags. You'll have to leave it in the comment ... does anyone know how to do it different so the mail comes from the user/commenter??

See that 'follower' thingy on my sidebar? It's a charm. I've added myself to all the blogs I know of so far. Then I can go to my dashboard and see what's happening, get entries, etc. I'm thinking this will work like an alert and not clog your mailbox. Only thing I don't know is how long entries stay up there.. eventually older ones will fall off so I'm thinking I have to check everyday or several times a day with the way some write ::grin::

I've been horrible in the comment section of those blogs I visited. I've had so much going on here, and then with the freakin mess I just said 'gotcha' or something. I promise that will change and soon. Know I care about what everyone is going through and if I can help I will.

Hope everyone is doing well and getting settled.
